Courageous Magesi strike late to deny Chippa
Magesi FC showed character as they fought back to hold Chippa United to a 2-2 draw in the Betway Premiership match played at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
However, Dikwena Tsa Meetse remain rock-bottom (16th) in the standings and they will be desperate to secure a victory when they take on Kaizer Chiefs on March 21 in order to ease their relegation fears.
The Chilli Boys, on the other hand, were left to rue letting a two-goal lead slip away, as they remained 13th in the standings. The Eastern Cape side will be keen to move further away from the relegation zone with a win over Stellenbosch FC on March 21.
Bongani Sam, eager to impress on his first PSL Premiership start since the 2023/24 season, delivered brilliantly by setting up the Chilli Boys' opening goal in the 41st minute.
The former Kaizer Chiefs left-back's precise pass found Ayabulela Konqobe, who unleashed a thunderous long-range strike that left goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze helpless, giving Chippa a 1-0 lead at half-time.
After the restart, Chippa refused to sit back on their narrow lead and kept pushing forward. Somalia Ntsundwana struck again in the 52nd minute, netting his second goal of the season to extend the Chilli Boys' advantage to 2-0.
However, Dikwena Tsa Meetse pulled one back in the 59th minute through Mncedi Vandala's strike, assisted by inspired substitute Edmore Chirambadare, narrowing the score to 2-1 and giving the hosts renewed hope.
The hosts then pushed hard for an equaliser and grabbed it in the 86th minute when inspired substitute Nyakala Raphadu set up Orlando Pirates loanee Sifiso Luthuli, who finished clinically to secure a 2-2 draw.
