PSL stars dominate Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup squad

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos on Wednesday evening announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America at a special event hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is strongly represented in the national squad, with 19 of the selected players currently plying their trade in the league, while a further six players honed their talents in the PSL before earning moves abroad.

The squad selection once again highlights the strength and quality of the PSL, as well as the continued impact of the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) in nurturing and developing the country’s finest young talent. A significant number of the selected players progressed through the DDC ranks before establishing themselves at senior level and earning international recognition with Bafana Bafana.

South Africa has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Mexico, Czech Republic and South Korea. Bafana Bafana will open their FIFA World Cup campaign on 11 June 2026 against Mexico in a historic fixture that will mirror the memorable opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Johannesburg.

The PSL congratulates all the selected players and wishes Bafana Bafana every success as they prepare to represent the nation on football’s biggest stage.
