Ajax, Tuks in goalless stalemate

Ajax Cape Town and University of Pretoria earned a point each when their Absa Premiership encounter ended in a 0-0 draw at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides had a few opportunities to break the deadlock but failed to make them count as they settled for a share of the spoils.

The first chance fell for the hosts in the 14th minute when Keagan Dolly found Tashreeq Morris on the right side of the box, but he dragged his shot wide of goal.

Four minutes later Atusaye Nyondo was able to control the ball with his chest at the other end before firing a volleyed shot wide of goal.

Thabo Mosadi broke through on the right for the visitors in the 23rd minute before crossing the ball towards Raymond Monama at the far post, but his volley was kept out by Anssi Jaakkola.

Thabo Mnyamane then used great skill to evade his markers just outside the box in the 32nd minute, but his right-footed shot flew wide of the upright.

Seven minutes later Mnyamane was able to receive the ball on the turn in the box, but his final shot lacked the power to trouble the Ajax goalkeeper.

Thabo Mosadi then fired wide of the target in the 56th minute while Monama saw his effort saved comfortably by Jaakkola ten minutes later.

Dominic Isaacs came close to breaking the deadlock in the 75th minute when he fired from just outside the box, but his shot grazed the top of the crossbar.

The hosts continued to push for a goal in the closing stages of the match but Keagan Dolly missed the target in the 81st minute while Abbubaker Mobara was denied by Washington Arubi seven minutes later.
