SuperSport edge Tuks in derby

SuperSport United brushed aside University of Pretoria 2-0 in an Absa Premiership clash at the Tuks Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday afternoon.

Matsatsantsa began the match like a house on fire as they grabbed two early goals with the AmaTuks defence looking shaky and unsettled.

New Zealand international Michael Boxall opened the scoring as early as the third minute following a quick counter-attack by SuperSport.

Eleven minutes later, it was 2-0 to Matsatsantsa when Clayton Daniels beat AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi with a great header.

AmaTuks surged forward in the 21st minute and Thabo Mnyamane fired the ball wide of the target without troubling SuperSport keeper Ronwen Williams.

In the 25th minute, SuperSport defender-cum-midfielder Thabo Mokeke beat three AmaTuks defenders and placed his shot wide of the target.

AmaTuks' off-side trap was sprung by Jeremy Brockie on the half-hour mark, but Arubi came out and denied the striker in a one-on-one situation.

Eight minutes before the interval, AmaTuks forward Mnyamane tried his luck from range and his effort missed the target once again.

Second-half substitute Thabo Mosadi pulled the ball back for Mnyamane six minutes after the restart and the forward's tap in was deflected wide of goal.

Matsatsantsa made their first change on the hour-mark with South Africa youth international Morne Nel replacing Thabo Mokeke.

Nel tried to make an immediate impact when he sent his left-footed shot from range wide of the target with Arubi untroubled in AmaTuks goal.

The home side's livewire Mnyamane brushed the ball with his left foot in the 67th minute, but Bafana goalkeeper Williams made a decent save.

Ultimately, SuperSport held onto their lead and they won 2-0 on the day.
