Baroka hold Polokwane in derby

A 96th minute goal from Tshepiso Lietsisa earned Baroka FC a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership match at the New Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was the perfect start for the home team who took the lead after only six minutes when Marshall Munetsi tapped home from close range after Polokwane failed to effectively clear a corner-kick, 1-0.

Baroka’s joy, though, was short-lived with Polokwane equalising eight minutes later after a solo run from Rodney Ramagalela saw him work his way into the box before slotting beyond the keeper, 1-1.

Just after the half hour mark Munetsi nearly scored a second for his side, but his header after meeting right wing cross went inches over the crossbar.

Munetsi was in the thick of the action yet again in the 40th minute with another strong header, but this time he was superbly denied by the acrobatics of the Polokwane goalkeeper.

The two sides entered the half time break locked at 1-1.

Polokwane came out firing in the second half and took the lead on the hour mark when Puleng Tlolane met a Ramagalela cross with a diving header to find the back of the net, 2-1.

Baroka tried to find their way back into the game after that as they mounted attack after attack, but the Polokwane defence looked to be holding firm.

That was until the sixth minute of added time when Tshepiso Lietsisa found the corner of the goal with a perfectly placed free-kick, 2-2.

The result sees Polokwane into seventh place on the table with ten points from seven games while Baroka are in ninth place with eight points from the same amount of games.
