City get three points against Arrows
A late own goal from defender Musa Bilankulu handed Cape Town City a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.
The victory sees Eric Tinkler's men occupying the third position on the log table with 55 points from 29 in the 2016/17 Premier Soccer League season.
In the opening 10 minutes, both camps fought for dominance where the visitors threatened first through Siphelele Magubane whose attempt was easily collected by City's goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters.
The hosts tried to respond three minutes later when Roland Putsche attempted a long range effort, but his shot went to the left of Nkosingiphile Gumede's posts.
Just after the half-hour mark, the Cityzens dictated the terms and Aubrey Ngoma delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but skipper Lebogang Manyama missed the target after connecting.
City intensified pressure towards the end of the opening half, but Lehlohonolo Majoro's shot went wide as both sides went to the tunnel deadlocked at 0-0.
The second stanza saw few clear cut opportunities, but it was Thabo Nodada who came close for the hosts as he took a shot which was tipped over the cross bar by Gumede.
Drama occurred in the last five minutes as Trevor Mathiane fouled Manyama in the box to concede a penalty, but the skipper missed his spot kick.
The final minutes of the contest saw Bilankulu netting an own goal to hand City the win.
In the wake of the loss, Abafana Bes'thende remain at No 9 with 35 points from 29 league matches.
