Sundowns chasing win over Polokwane

Mamelodi Sundowns are out to bag their second successive 2017/18 Absa Premiership win when they welcome Polokwane City to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kick-off is at 7:30pm.

Coach Pitso Mosimane will rally behind his troops to ensure they claim their second win at home and to keep their momentum going.

Fresh from a 2-0 win over neighbours SuperSport United last Saturday, the Brazilians will have to remain cautious of Rise and Shine's threat.

Bernard Molekwa's side drew 0-0 at home in their league opener and will now target to secure the full three points on Tuesday.

What the teams are saying

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Yannick Zakri:

“Yeah, for this game, I want to be part of the team and help the club get the full three points, we need to fight harder,” said Zakri.

“I know Sundowns, the last time we played against them, they sat and waited for us, we have to be quick this time and get the first opportunity to score.

“We want to take the same application from SuperSport to the Polokwane game. I want to score goals for the club, the supporters and for the coach.”

Polokwane City coach Bernard Molekwa:

“Look, this will not be an easy match I must be honest. We are playing against one of the best teams in the country, the African champions,” said Molekwa.

"We would want to go there and cause an upset. We believe in ourselves as a team.

“They played well at home against SuperSport and we have never beaten them in Pretoria, we only got a draw.

“Besides that, I am expecting a good game come tomorrow night. I know my boys will be motivated to go for a win - I really expect a better showing from my team.

“We played well against Baroka, but we missed so many chances and I am quite certain that we will get a good result on Tuesday as we want to improve.”

Key players for Mamelodi Sundowns

Hlompho Kekana: The skipper has started where he left off last season and will want to lead by example on Tuesday night. Kekana was on the scoresheet last Saturday and will be the man expected to boss the midfield.

Themba Zwane: The attacking midfielder proved his worth last season when it comes to scoring vital goals for the African champions. He netted a brilliant goal against United last weekend and his partnership with the likes of Percy Tau and George Lebese will be a headache for City.

Key players for Polokwane City:

George Chigova: The big Zimbabwean keeper will be the man tasked with containing and stopping every attack launched by Sundowns. As the last man of defence, Chigova's role is to ensure they remain organised at the back and keep a clean sheet.

Jabulani Maluleke: The creative midfielder is the man expected to make the team tick. His ability to pass and deliver dangerous set pieces and crosses is what Sundowns will guard against on the day.
