City sink Dikwena to go joint top

Cape Town City made it two wins from two and went joint top of the Absa Premiership after beating Platinum Stars 3-1 at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was a slow start to the game from both sides with the rainy weather playing a big part in disjointing the flow of the match.

Nonetheless, Cape Town City saw more of the ball and almost took the lead in the 14th minute when a long-range free-kick from Ayanda Patosi shaved the wrong side of the crossbar.

Ten minutes later the home side were gifted a great opportunity to take the lead when Lebogang Manyama was brought down inside the box by Stars keeper Mbongeni Mzimela and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Letsie Koapeng stepped up for Cape Town City and made no mistake from the spot as he slotted home, 1-0.

The Citizens continued to dictate terms after that, but failed to add to their goal tally before the break.

Cape Town City maintained the same amount of pressure on the Stars goal in the second half and found their reward on the hour mark after a beautiful piece of skill from Ayanda Patosi saw him beat two defenders before firing the ball home from just inside the box, 2-0.

The icing on the cake for the home side was their third goal, scored by debutant Teko Modise in the 72nd minute after concluding a well-worked passing move with a clinical finish from close range, 3-0.

Stars did find some consolation ten minutes later when Robert Ngámbi headed home from ten-yards out after meeting an inch perfect cross from the right, 3-1.
