Baroka eye first win against Chilli Boys

Chippa United are out to bag their second successive Absa Premiership win as they welcome Baroka FC on Tuesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.

Coach Dan Malesela wants nothing but a win at home as they seek to maintain their fine winning form, especially in front of a home crowd.

The Chilli Boys are fresh from a 1-0 loss against Orlando Pirates, but bounced back and claimed a 2-0 win over AmaZulu at home and the mission is to retain the full three points this time around.

Shifting focus to the visitors, Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele are also desperate for a win as they want to avoid fighting relegation in their second top flight campaign.

Coach Kgoloko Thobejane's charges have two draws so far in the league, they opened with a 0-0 draw against neighbours Polokwane City and 1-1 against the Buccaneers.

Their mission is to find their first win and ensure they uplift their morale in the new campaign, but against United the match is set to be a thrilling affair.

What the teams are saying:

Chippa United skipper Diamond Thopola:

“We are playing at home, so we cannot afford any mistakes,” Thopola said. “As much as it is not easy playing away, we have to make sure that we win our home games to make life easier for us.

“Also, we want to make our home ground a slaughterhouse. When teams come here, they must know they are coming for a tough battle.

“We have had a very good two-week break. The guys have been working very hard at training, they have been pushing themselves.

“We don’t have any injuries, so everybody will be available for selection. Both teams were fighting for survival last season, so they had to make sure they strengthen their squads.

“But we don’t have to worry about them. We have to worry about ourselves and make sure we get the business done.”

Baroka FC coach Kgoloko Thobejane:

“The team had a very good preparation for the game against Chippa, we have realised that they have an astute technical team, which you undermine at your own peril,” said Thobejane.

“We did prepare for a tough task against them, this is one team we have to beat, we don't want to repeat our last year mistakes of not collecting points on during the first round.

“Every player is ready to bounce and deliver, all our players are available and the inclusion of Doctor Khumalo in our technical team has brought new approach to the set up which will be realised tomorrow.”

Key players for Chippa United:

Kurt Lentjies:

Lentjies provided the two assists against Usuthu and his ability to circulate dangerous passes will be key for the hosts. The attacker has definitely settled down at Chippa and will want to provide assists once again or score a goal or two.

Moeketsi Sekola:

Having scored his first goal for Chippa, Sekola will want to consolidate his place in the team and regain his scoring prowess. Meeting Baroka hands him an opportunity to be in the score sheet again.

Key players for Baroka FC:

Punch Masenamela:

The experienced left back is known for his trademark runs on the flank. He is dangerous when it comes to crosses and United must watch out for the pacey campaigner.

Letladi Madubanya:

Madubanya is one of the tough tacklers in the league and will be tasked with stopping all the attacks launched by the Chilli Boys. The Bakgaga anchorman could come up against Lentjies and the likes of Mark Mayambela in the heart of the park.
