Arrows host AmaZulu in KZN derby

Golden Arrows will be motivated to get their second successive win when they host Premier Soccer League returnees, AmaZulu in the Absa Premiership at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3:00pm.

Abafana Bes'thende are in high spirits having defeated the reigning league champions 3-1 at home on Wednesday night.

However, facing the PSL returnees in a derby has all the ingredients of a thriller as AmaZulu will also want to return to winning ways.

For Usuthu, Cavin Johnson's men opened their league campaign with a 1-0 win over Free State Stars and lost to Chippa United before drawing against Maritzburg United in another KZN derby.

What the teams are saying

Golden Arrows midfielder Nkanyiso Cele:

“For me, I see a tough game on Sunday because AmaZulu are not a small team never mind the fact that they are from the NFD,” said Cele.

“Look, the mission is to get the full three points because coming from a win against the league champions away in Johannesburg is a huge boost.

“The coach will make his preparations and let us know how he wants us to play and we will ensure we follow the instruction to win the derby.”

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson:

“We are fresh from a derby and here we are going to another one. I must say that Arrows are doing well at the moment,” said Johnson.

“They beat Wits and we watched them how they played, we saw how good they are. However, I am sure as we are fresh from a 1-1 draw against log the leaders, we can be able to challenge and push them to get the full three points.

“We have to impress our supporters by winning one of the derbies and I am sure my players know that coming from the NFD, life will not be easy in the PSL.

“So we are going to prepare for this derby, it will not be easy I can tell you.”

Key players for Golden Arrows:

Musa Bilankulu: The defender's versatility will come in handy on Sunday as he wants to help the club and bag their second successive win. Apart from his defensive duties, Bilankulu is also good when it comes to attack especially on set pieces.

Lerato Lamola: Lamola is also known as the quiet assassin and will hope to use his pace very well in the derby. He netted a good goal against the Clever Boys and his aim is to be on the scoresheet once again.

Key players for AmaZulu:

Michael Morton: Morton is a hard man in that Usuthu midfield and will be tasked with adding more steel in the central position. He scored an own goal on Tuesday and will be out to rectify that error.

Rhulani Manzini: One of the experienced forwards in the Usuthu attack, Manzini will want to open his scoring account for his new club. Against a defence that he knows well, Manzini will be a tough man to close down on Sunday.
