Chiefs and Polokwane fight out goalless draw
Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs drew 0-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
The draw sees Rise and Shine move up to 11th spot on the league standings, while Amakhosi remain fourth.
Rise and Shine enjoyed more possession in the opening stages of the match, but Amakhosi looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
George Maluleka found some space outside the Polokwane box in the eighth minute and he forced goalkeeper George Chigova into a comfortable low save.
The Zimbabwean shot-stopper also denied Hendrick Ekstein, who also tried his luck from range and Chigova made a comfortable save in the 12th minute.
Rodney Ramagalela, the current Absa Premiership top goal scorer with six goals, was looking lively for Rise and Shine upfront.
The former Black Leopards marksman forced Chiefs' veteran keeper Itumeleng Khune into a good save in the 21st minute.
Amakhosi then took control of the match - applying some pressure on the Rise and Shine defence with the halftime break fast approaching.
However, Polokwane managed to contain Chiefs and the score 0-0 at the interval following a lively first-half.
Rise and Shine started the second brightly and they came very close to scoring 10 minutes after the restart.
Jabulani Maluleke's header was pushed into Polokwane striker Rendani Ndou's path by Khune following a great cross from Ramagalela.
But somehow Ndou, who scored against Orlando Pirates in a league game this season, placed his header wide of the target from close range.
Chiefs coach Steve Komphela made the first change of the match in the 67th minute - pulling out Bernard Parker for Gustavo Paez.
Amakhosi then pressed the hosts and Daniel Cardoso's header was saved by Chigova, before Siphiwe Tshabalala hit the upright with a left-footed shot.
However, it was end-to-end stuff in the closing stages of the match as Rise and Shine fought back in search of a late winning goal.
Chiefs substitute Dumisani Zuma missed the target after being sent through on goal in the 79th minute and amost immediately at the other end Khune denied Ndou with a brilliant low save.
Nevertheless, the match ended in a goalless draw as Polokwane and Chiefs were unable to score in the closing stages.
