Samir Nurkovic bagged a brace as Kaizer Chiefs regained their 10-point lead atop the Absa Premiership standings with a 4-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Siyabonga Ngezana opened the scoring for the Amakhosi in the Mother City as the visitors made it six wins from six matches on the road this season. Dumisani Zuma rounded off the rout in second-half stoppage time.

Defeat leaves Stellies in 14th spot on the log standings, but now just a mere point above bottom-placed Chippa United.

Chiefs got off to the perfect start as Ngezana found the back of the net in the 11th minute of the match. The centre-back rose highest from a Lebogang Manyama corner-kick to give the league leaders an early lead.

The second goal was a carbon copy of the first, with Manyama the provider once more. The former Cape Town City captain finding Nurkovic from a similarly perfect corner-kick as the Serbian doubled Chiefs' lead int he 23rd minute; nodding the ball home past Boy de Jong in the Stellenbosch goal.

The onslaught continued following the break and the Glamour Boys should've been three goals up just before the hour mark as Manyama and Nurkovic linked up once more, but the latter failed to direct his diving header on goal.

Stellebosch's first shot on target came through Marc van Heerden in the 68th minute, with their best chance following two minutes later as Waseem Isaacs shrugged off Yagan Sasman before directing his shot from an acute angle straight at Daniel Akpeyi's face.

Nurkovic finally completed his double in the 76th minute, heading home after Zuma's initial shot was saved by De Jong.

Zuma, though, would get his goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time to complete an emphatic win for the visitors.

The attacker on hand to pass the ball into the back of the net from close range to fire Chiefs 10 points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chippa United claimed just their second win of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season when they crushed Black Leopards 3-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday evening. The Chilli Boys – who secured the win thanks to goals from Thabo Rakhale, Augustine Kwem and William Twala – remain bottom of the log but are now just a point away from AmaZulu and Stellenbosch in 15th and 14th respectively, while Lidoda Duvha are only a point further ahead.

LATE STRIKE HELPS ARROWS DEFEAT BAROKA

Golden Arrows struck a late goal to edge Baroka FC 1-0 in an Absa Premiership clash played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening. Danny Venter headed a winner in the dying stages to see Abafana Bes'thende go fourth with 20 points, while Bakgaga are 12th with 12 points from 12 matches.

CELTIC AND CT CITY IN GOALLLESS DRAW

Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City played to a 0-0 draw in a midweek Absa Premiership match at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday evening. Gabadinho Mhango, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Kabelo Dlamini all found the back of the net for the Buccaneers who move up to seventh on the log standings, level on points with both Highlands Park and Bidvest Wits.

MEZA STRIKE SEALS DOWNS VICTORY

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over AmaZulu FC in an Absa Premiership match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night. Despite the win, Masandawana remained second on the league standings, but they are now seven points behind the leaders, Kaizer Chiefs, while AmaZulu remained 15th on the log.

WITS FIGHT BACK TO EARN A SHARE OF THE SPOILS

Bidvest Wits fought back to hold hosts Highlands Park 1-1 in an Absa Premiership match at Makhulong Stadium on Tuesday evening. Both teams’ goals came via the penalty spot, with Peter Shalulile giving the Lions of the North the lead late in the first half, while the Clever Boys’ Thabang Monare equalised in injury time at the end of the game. The result leaves the respective teams tied on 16 points in sixth and fifth place respectively.
