Stellenbosch FC continue to underwhelm in the Betway Premiership after they could only draw 0-0 with Durban City at the Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Stellies at least managed to snap a four-game losing streak across all competitions, but this stalemate saw them drop to third-last on the log (five points from eight matches), with only Chippa United and Siwelele FC below them.

The Citizens, meanwhile, recorded a third draw of the season and find themselves in sixth place on the log (12 points from eight matches) – eight points off the pace of leaders Sekhukhune United.

The first genuine scoring chance went the way of Stellenbosch midway through the first half, with a quick attack down the left teeing up Sanele Barns with a shooting chance inside the penalty area, but his low drive was blocked by City defender Mfanafuthi Mkhize.

City had a couple of promising moments in attack through the remainder of the first half, though they were unable to draw Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens into a notable save, leaving the game scoreless at the interval.

Stephens was called upon early in the second stanza, making a brave block with his body in a crowded penalty area to deny Letsie Koapeng, as the visitors continued to grow as a force in the game.

The teams traded chances after the hour mark, with Stellenbosch’s Devon Titus shooting just over and Andre De Jong stinging the palms of goalkeeper Darren Keet, while the Durban side threatened via a glancing header from Siphamandla Ncanana and a shot from Bokang Mokwena which hit the side netting.

Stellies looked the likelier scorers in the final quarter of the match, but the experience and composure of Keet in the City goal, as well as his organisation of the defenders in front of him, kept the Cape side at bay and ensured a share of the spoils.

The teams will return to Premiership action this weekend, with Durban City hosting Magesi FC on Saturday 27 September, while Stellenbosch will visit Chippa United the following day.
