Durban City continued their fine start to the Betway Premiership season after they came from behind to beat Magesi 3-1 at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday, September 27.

Wonderboy Makhubu's 29th-minute header gave Dikwena tsa Meetse a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the impressive Samkelo Maseko hit back for Gavin Hunt's side on 50 minutes before further goals from Saziso Magawana and Letsie Koapeng completed the turnaround.

The Citizens climbed back up to third place ahead of Polokwane City on goal difference and Magesi found themselves down in 13th position following a second consecutive defeat.

City went in search of their first win in three matches, although they played out to a 0-0 draw with Stellenbosch in midweek, while John Maduka's side were looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay three days ago.

The visitors almost got off to a flying start when an attack in the second minute led to Darren Keet making a point-blank save.

City grew in stature and Haashim Domingo threatened on 18 minutes with a shot from range that flew wide of the target before Maseko forced Elvis Chipezeze into a save seven minutes later after cutting inside from the left.

However, John Maduka's side drew first blood just before the half-hour mark as Makhubu got on the end of Kgomotso Mosadi's cross to head home the opener.

The hosts nearly found a swift reply when Domingo hit a snapshot on the half-volley from inside the box that drew a fine save out of Chipezeze on 31 minutes.

The 2024 Carling Knockout champions held onto their one-goal lead at the break, but it took the Citizens just five second-half minutes to restore parity with Maseko side-footing the ball past Chipezeze.

City had their tails up now and they were a whisker away from going in front on 73 minutes when Bokang Mokwena rattled the crossbar with a fierce strike before Maseko's effort also brushed the frame of the goal two minutes later.

Their pressure would pay off soon afterwards as Magawana cut inside from right and lined up a shot that nestled into the back of the net on 77 minutes and fellow substitute Koapeng sealed the comeback win two minutes from time with a close-range finish after Chipezeze could only parry Maseko's initial shot.
